Why do I need to pee?

Don

Urine is formed in the kidneys, which is one of your body's most important organs. Your kidneys cleanse your blood of waste and make sure that this waste is removed from your body. Your kidneys also help to regulate your blood pressure.

Your bladder collects and holds the urine that your kidneys produce. This is very practical, because otherwise your urine would flow out all the time.

If you are careless and don't empty your bladder, it starts to send constant signals about its need to be emptied. As a consequence, you are forced to go to the toilet very often. This can also lead to urine leakage.

Don't be careless about emptying your bladder

Carelessness can lead to problems emptying your bladder, even though you want to pee. You risk having to press, push, even force the urine out. Then you have a small amount of urine left in your bladder, where bacteria can start to grow. And this in turn leads to an infection in the urinary tract (UTI).
Signs of a UTI are pain when you pee, feeling you need to pee even though you just emptied your bladder, headaches and sometimes even fever. UTIs can damage both your bladder and your kidneys. That's why it's important to seek help.
